Try it as a basic, everyday green tea. Also good when chilled. The tea plant was first brought to Japan from China in the nineth century by Buddhist monks. They had realized that tea can sharpen their alertness while helping them to maintain a sense of calm during meditation. It later gained popularity as a social drink among the aristocracy and went on to become the beverage of choice in all of Japan. Today, the same care and appreciation goes into the cultivation and enjoyment of tea as in other areas of Japanese art and culture. Almost all tea produced in Japan is green.
